MENTORING FUTURE LEADERS THROUGH SPORTS
Joe Sabol has a lifelong passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes, using sports as a vehicle to teach critical life skills like discipline, resilience, and leadership. He has coached boys and girls of all ages, helping them grow both on and off the mat. Joe’s coaching resume is distinguished by his leadership roles at the Merchant Marine Academy and Montclair State University, where he served as head wrestling coach. In his one year as head coach at Montclair State, Joe was awarded Coach of the Year honors for the Metropolitan Conference.
Joe is also a USA Wrestling Bronze Level Coach and one of the coaching leads for Team New Jersey, which placed 2nd amongst all states at the 2024 Junior National Tournament. His success as a coach is built upon his own impressive wrestling career, during which he won two national titles and competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Trials.
Currently, Joe volunteers at Cordoba Trained Wrestling School in Fairfield, where two of his personally trained athletes are ranked nationally. Joe’s dedication to coaching reflects his commitment to youth development, and his coaching philosophy emphasizes not just athletic achievement but the importance of hard work, humility, and perseverance—values that help his athletes succeed both on and off the mat.
For Joe, coaching is about more than just winning; it’s about fostering the growth of future leaders. He is a strong advocate for programs that provide students with opportunities to excel in all areas of life, and his impact on the young people he coaches has been profound.
